Central ERP Platform For Data Independency

Initial Situation

The Asset Management Team at a Swiss bank started a project to create a central platform. This platform aims to bring more processes under their control and manage their own data. Their goal is to develop a single operating model that can be used worldwide.

Core Tasks

  • Requirements Engineering: Gathering and analyzing the necessary requirements to build the platform.
  • Process Engineering: Focusing primarily on operational finance processes to ensure efficiency and integration.
  • System Integration: Ensuring the new ERP system integrates seamlessly with existing systems.
  • Data Migration: Safely and accurately transferring existing data to the new platform.

Solution Approach

In collaboration with a Swiss bank and IT, a central Dynamics 365 ERP was implemented and integrated with existing systems. Both functional and non-functional aspects were prioritized. The initial scope covered all Real Estate funds in the DACH region.

  • Asset Management: A specialized software solution (Immopac) was implemented for asset management, equipped with appropriate data feeds. Various valuation and planning processes were established for the investment objects and integrated with ancillary systems.
  • Portfolio & Fund Management: The same software was utilized for portfolio management, encompassing acquisitions and dispositions processes, reporting, risk management, and financing aspects.
  • Construction Management: The focus was on planning, controlling, activations, and cost accounting according to BKP within Dynamics 365. Projects were set up in the master data, planned and accounted for with a BKP or DIN276 structure. Additionally, activation processes were integrated with property management.
  • Accounting: Efforts were made to standardize the chart of accounts to harmonize financial processes. Other areas covered included asset accounting (integrated with construction management processes), cash management, representation of external financing, closing processes, and reporting. Evaluations were also conducted using PowerBI.

Added Value

  • Independence from Property Management: Achieving greater control over data flows and sovereignty.
  • Enablement of a Multi-Provider Strategy: Flexibility to engage with multiple service providers.
  • Enhanced Transparency: Improved visibility into processes and data.
  • Unified Operating Model: Establishing a consistent operating model across all regions, leading to efficiency gains in platform management.

Conclusion

The implementation of a central Dynamics 365 ERP has enabled our Swiss bank client's Asset Management division to achieve significant strides towards data independence, enhanced control, and operational efficiency. The unified platform was designed to serve as a robust foundation for future growth and adaptability across global operations. We are proud to have worked with strong partners from EY Digital Real Estate and POM+ on this project.
